Missions

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19,20).
The history of HLCE’s involvement in missions can be traced back to the time our sister Ho May Huay gave her life for Missions work with Operation Mobilization (OM) in 1980. Eight years later, in 1988, her brother, Daniel Ho followed her footstep to serve in OM and later became the director of OM,Malaysia for more than 10 years. Bro. Daniel is currently serving with INTERSERVE.
In 2000, bro. Teo Cheng Chye and his wife, Joo Ping, together with their two daughters, Amanda and Leanne went aboard the ship, Doulos to serve for 22 months. Upon completion of their service, they joined Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF) and are currently serving inEast Asia.
The partnership between HLCE and Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB) churches started in 1994 through Cikgu James Janting. In 1996, HLCE was invited to send some members to Munggu Gerenis to expose them to Christian work in Spaoh and Luban Ulu. The trip was also to dedicate the church building which HLCE helped finance its construction. The team was led by Pastor Cheng. Two other mission trips followed and led by Rev. Nicholas Yeo and Pastor Low Chai Hock in 1997 and 1999 respectively. HLCE also helped finance the commissioning of electricity and water supplies to the longhouses there in 1999.
In September 2002, Cikgu James Janting led a group of 11 members from SIB Sri Aman church to visit HLCE. They shared about the mass conversion of a few longhouses along the Skrang river where the headmen gave their lives to Jesus. We were challenged to contribute financially to support the outreach work to other longhouses along the Skrang river.
In March 2003, a Mission Education and Exposure Trip (MEET) led by Pastor Gan went to visit some of the longhouses along the Skrang river in Sri Aman. The team came back with many encouraging reports which stirred up the hearts of many members to be interested to join the next MEET. Since then, we receive overwhelming response from church members for every MEET toSarawak. Bro. Donald Teo also helped to do electrical and re-wiring work in some of the longhouses and the churches.
The first Cambodia MEET was organised in December 2004 where the team visited the Street Kids and Children’s Home in Phnom Penh sponsored by HIS (His International Services) International. Since then, HLCE has been contributing financially to some of the needs of this ministry.
During the last few years, our involvement in MEET toCambodiaalso included medical work led by Dr. Gan, Dr. Tong, Ps. Dr.Chuah, Dr. Khong, and others. Today, the ministries of HIS International have expended to include Kindergarten, Children Centre, Youth Centre, Tuition Centre, Church Service, Primary and Secondary School(in the near future).
Last December 2011, we included Siem Reap in our MEET toCambodia.
In May 2009, Pastor Raymond led a MEET to West Kalimantan where he and his wife, Lydia served as missionaries previously. The following year, in 2010, a group of senior citizens joined Pastor Raymond for the MEET toPontianak and Singkawang inWest Kalimantan.
