Hokkien Ministry
The Hokkien Service meets every Sunday except the first Sunday of the month. The worshippers consist of mainly old folks who are parents of members and friends of the English-speaking church, and younger people who serve as committee members and helpers of the Hokkien Service.
Most of the older members are illiterate while our helper workers are English-educated. Because of this, our worship songs, hymns and choruses have English lyrics as well as romanised Hokkien. Through the years (eight years in July 2012), we have made a compilation of Hokkien songs. Some songs are the creations of members. Others are learnt from YouTube, tapes and CDs. We praise God for the enthusiasm of all congregation members where worship is concerned.
The Hokkien worship service begins at 5.00 pm. We meet in the container-cabin located next to the Hillville residence. Pastors, full-time workers and our own members are invited to be speakers for the worship services. Holy Communion is celebrated every third Sunday of the month. The weekly attendances number between 40 to 50 persons. On special occasions the number swells. Evangelistic outreach through meals at restaurants and through song services by gifted singers have been held regularly through the years.
We welcome members who have pre-Christian Hokkien or Teochew-speaking parents or relatives or friends to seriously pray and consider bringing them to the Hokkien Service.
